Class IV: A, B and C                                                           Subject: Maths

Topic: Measurement of Mass.                                             Date: 12th October, 2020

Units of Mass

The commonly used units to measure mass are kilogram and gram. Kilogram (kg) is the unit to measure the mass of bigger objects. Gram (g) is also a unit of mass but it measures smaller objects.

Units

Abbreviation ( short form)

Gram

g

Kilogram

kg

Relationship between kg and g.

1 kg = 1000 g

1 g =

When you convert ‘g’ to ‘kg’, divide by 1000

Example i) Convert 250 g into kg

(When we convert gram into kilogram we have to divide by 1000.)

1kg = 1000 g

250 g =  ____ kg

 250 g ÷ 1000 = 0.25

250 g ÷ 1000 = 0.25 kg

Example ii) Convert 2.5kg into g

(When you convert ‘kg’ into ‘g’, multiply by 1000)

= 2.5kg x 1000 g

= 2500 g

                                   Lesson Reflection for ICT blogger.

Among many online teachings I found this particular topic (Measurement of mass) bit tough for the students to explain, especially the conversion parts. This made me to understand that students are lacking division concept.

So, inoder to give clear concept I down loaded the video clip on this particular topic and shared with the students in class group chats along with my own created video clips too. Then I asked the students to redo the activities with some additional activities.

I also modified the activities because I found that the children facing difficulties especially division with decimals.

Example;

Convert 250 g into kg

(When we convert gram into kilogram we have to divide by 1000.)

1kg = 1000 g

250 g =  ____ kg

         0.25

250    1000

         -1000

              0

250 g ÷ 1000 = 0.25

250 g ÷ 1000 = 0.25 kg

After solving some more activities the students could do better. But still students are not confident with conversion especially divisions with decimals. One reason could be in Class III the topic division is touched in brief and the most simplified manner without decimals. And another reason could be the online teaching. I assume that if it had been a face to face teaching both the teacher and students could perform better with some remedial classes.

I am more worried and wondering for the students with SIM. Before lockdown our school administration planned to make visits  students with SIM for face to face teaching in an identified place and location in consultation with local leaders as per the conveniences and safety of students and it was going so well with positive feedbacks from parents. But I am confident that we can do it once the situation comes into normal.

                                                             ICT Reflection 2

Comparison to its initial stage now we find lots of improvements both in the teachers and students in the usage of ICT for our teaching and learning. Not only have the students evened the teachers and parents learnt a lot about the importance of ICT in the 21st century.” Practice makes a man perfect.”

While carrying out this kind of ICT lesson we come across many obstacles. Such as the concept teaching especially in the lower classes and another one is correction and giving feedbacks. Since most of the students are landed in one kind of apps due to the kind of mobile they are able to afford. Where by the teachers are compelled to make their lessons to the simplest so that their entire mobile could support the lessons.

Throughout my ICT lessons during the pandemic, I found the lesson was not as effective and satisfactory as face to face teaching because of limited communication facilities. We cannot judge our students progress with clear understanding.

In fact our royal government of Bhutan is trying its best to give the best education to our students. Even in such situation the least privileged students are provided with SIM as ad hoc educational facilities. But sometimes I feel it is meaningless just provide with SIM without the guidance and support of their teachers.

Class Information:

Class IV                 Section: A, B, C                           Date: 24th August, 2020

Topic: Folding and making nets                                 Time: 50 minutes

Lesson Objectives:

i)                Identify the shapes for the given nets correctly.

ii)              Make nets for given shapes correctly looking at the given examples.

Teaching-learning materials: Nets, laptop and mobile.

Introduction: The teacher will revise the lessons by asking questions on nets of prisms and pyramids from Class III.

i)                Can anyone tell us something about the word Net?

ii)              Can anyone come and draw a net for any shapes?

Teacher’s input: A net is a 2-D shape that can be folded to make a 3-D shape.

There can be more than one net for a 3-D shape.

A net has to be able to form the 3-D shape when folded up.

Lesson Development: teacher will demonstrate how to make a net for the given shape.

 Example A net for cylinder.

       Example A net for cone

Activity I: Look at the nets and name the 3-D shapes for each nets given below.

Activity II: Create TWO nets for this cube.

follow-up. Students will resend the solved activities to the teacher through wechat .

closure : teacher checks their work and give necessary feedback and recommendation through wechat

in voice message or sms.

     correcting student work.

communicating  with my students through wechat.

                                                                  ICT Reflection

In the 21st century the ICT has become the most integral tools in our day to day life. Even in the teaching profession without the use of ICT the teaching learning- learning becomes a waste of time, resources and meaningless. So, in order to meet such important purpose the ministry of education has included this module (ICT) in the B.Ed course for both the pre-service and in-service programme to learn and apply the most basic and important skills on integration of ICT in our teaching subjects.

Covid19 pandemic has become a blessing in disguise at least for the teachers and students regarding the usage of ICT.During such situation the schools are compelled to close down to safe oneself and others. Leading the teaching-learning process takes place continuously through different modes of ICT.Both the teachers and students got opportunities to explore and implement the new ICT knowledge.

In an initial stage both the teachers and students came across lots of obstacles to familiarize the new system of teaching-learning through ICT especially the lower classes.Infact this occurred due to sudden close down of schools which gave us little or no time at all to orient about the usage of ICT for teaching –learning purpose. But gradually both the parties came into common consensuses accepting the failure and success of new system of teaching-learning.

During the process of teaching-learning through ICT we came across lots of challenges, such as net work accessibility, smart phones, sharing of phone in the family, financial supports for recharging for calls and ICT knowledge for teaching-learning as most of our students come from uneducated family back grounds. But now the scenario is changing with drastic improvements from all with better understanding and cooperation. Now the only problem is with the SIM users as we couldn’t guide and assess their works.

Thanking you.

Thanks to our  royal government of Bhutan, for giving us such an opportunity to upgrade our professional qualification. And  also  to our tutors for scarifying their preciouses time in such a chill winter weather of Paro.In-fact they should be enjoying the vacation with their family, nearest and dearest with hot drinks and meals.
Our gratitude remains immortals for the opportunity provided and the time spared on us.But it is certain that this kind of course will bring positive impact in our teaching profession and to our students at large the future leaders of our country.Who are the great dreams of our beloved kings.
